Assam citizens’ list NRC released, uncertainty for 19 lakh people

💻Jk News info 📰 Guwahati: Over 19 lakh people have been left out of the final National Register of Citizens or NRC – a list intended to identify legal residents and weed out illegal immigrants from Assam – that was published this morning. 3.11 crore have been included in the crucial citizens’ list. The status of both inclusion and exclusion can be viewed online on the NRC website, www.nrcassam.nic.in . The website crashed soon after the list was published. Coming just weeks after the government ended Jammu and Kashmir’s decades-old special status, the NRC too is expected to go down as one of the biggest moves in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second term. Security has been tightened in Assam, with tens of thousands of paramilitary personnel and police posted across the north-eastern state bordering Bangladesh. The centre has said people whose names don’t appear in the final NRC cannot be declared foreigners till all legal options are exhausted. Every person left out of t...

Illegal mining in Ravi River

💻Jk News info 📰 Writ of mafia reigns supreme in and around Ravi River on account of open and disguised support by some officials of Geology and Mining and other state departments which results in robbing the river of its rich mineral costing crores of Rupees. A joint team from some other departments like Irrigation and Flood Control, Roads and Buildings, Rural Development, and Forest Department has found in its probe the startling goings on in extracting mineral wealth quite illegally in flagrant violation of Jammu and Kashmir Minor Mineral Concession , Storage , Transportation of Minerals and Prevention of Illegal Mining Rules 2016. The moot question is as to whether any action has been taken against the violators and looters of the river’s mineral health following the findings by the concerned authorities . Surprisingly, there has been nothing of any sort which means there was an implied licence and a free hand provided to the plunderers of the mineral wealth of the river. State G...

Gender gap in literacy

💻Jk News info 📰 The position on the front of bringing more and more women under the ambit of literacy in India is not only encouraging but has become a trend setter for many developing countries . It goes without saying that educating a woman was tantamount to educating one full family. Besides knowing what was going around in the world in different fields , literacy was an anti dote to superstitions and a tool to fight social evils. An educated mother meant an enlightened family to take care of the family health and hygiene. Former President Pranab Mukherjee reiterating the importance of imparting education to women has advised to further bridge the gap in literacy and stressed upon to do more on the front. Though the female literacy is around 61 percent as against 81 per cent among males as per the census of 2011 , the percentage was gradually improving among the women of the country and more facilities and incentives especially at far flung and rural areas would bring about a per...

Hormone therapies slightly increase breast cancer risk, even a decade later: study

💻Jk News info 📰 PARIS:  Hormone therapy to relieve menopause symptoms slightly increases the risk of breast cancer, according to a large-scale study published Friday in The Lancet. Other research has established a similar link, but the new study is the first to show that the risk remains elevated even ten years after treatment has stopped. It also quantifies for the first time the level of risk associated with different types of menopause hormone therapy, or MHT. The chance that a women between 50 and 69 who has never undergone MHT will contract breast cancer is about 6.3 in a 100. By comparison, a woman in that age bracket who takes oestrogen and, intermittently, progestagen for five years stands a 7.7 in 100 chance of getting the disease. If — in the same scenario — progestagen use is daily, the risk goes up again: 8.3 in 100. Finally, an oestrogen-only regimen is closest to the no-hormones baseline, with a 6.8 out of 100 risk. More prolonged use carries even higher risk...
