4 more test positive for Covid-19 Coronavirus in Kashmir, JK toll reaches 45

Srinagar, March 39: Four more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Kashmir on Sunday, taking the number of infected to 45 and dead to two in the Jammu and Kashmir.

Rohit Kansal, the spokesperson for the Jammu and Kashmir administration, said four more cases detected positive in Kashmir. 2 each from Shopian and Srinagar districts, he said.

“All contacts of previous positive cases. Contact tracing working on the ground”, he said.

As per the health officials, 4 new cases in Kashmir were detected for the infections among them two were admitted in JLNM and Pulwama hospitals.

“Two among them are residents of Shopian district in south Kashmir and have travel history to Indonesia,” the official said.

Another duo aged 26 and 40 years had also shared a sumo vehicle on way to home from Jammu to Srinagar with a COVID-19 patient from Bemina Srinagar, they said.

With the confirmation of the four fresh cases, the number of COVID-19 patients has gone up to 33 in Kashmir and 45 in the entire Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier three fresh cases were reported in the Jammu division.

Over 6000 travelers and people in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance so far the Jammu and Kashmir.

3 Kashmiri students develop J&K Covid-19 tracker website

With an aim to aim to provide fast and accurate information on Covid-19 in J&K, three Kashmir students have developed the website.

Haider Ali Punjabi who is an undergraduate student of IMCA at Cluster University, Srinagar, Vikas Bukhari, B.Tech CSE Student at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri and Mudasir Ali who is the freelance web designer have made a Covid-19 Tracker Website covidkashmir.org.

As per the developers, the  Covid-19 tracker website would act as a database of Covid-19 in the region. It has been optimized for 2G speed but also provides a small (<1kb) version (lite.covidkashmir.org).

“There is a lot of misinformation and fake news regarding the number of coronavirus infected patients. We are trying our best to get the right information,” the group said.

They said in the future, they would be releasing apps for mobiles as well.


Burglars loot COVID-19 Patient’s house in Bandipora

 In a shocking incident, burglars have allegedly decamped with cash and other valuables from the house of a Covid-19 patient in the Hajjin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

As per reports, the burglars struck at the house last night at Saderkoot Bala area in Hajin Bandipora and decamped with cash and kind worth Rs 3 lakhs besides other valuable.

A police official at Bandipora told JKNS that they have registered an FIR (53/2020) and an investigation was taken up in the case.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, two Shopian villages declared red zones

In wake of the fresh positive cases for coronavirus, the administration here on Monday declared two villages in the Shopian district of south Kashmir as red zones and their surrounding villages as buffer zones to prevent the spread of the pathogen.

The villages include Sedow, Ramnagri and its nearby areas, an official of the administration told.

“The area has become more vulnerable as far as further transmission of the COVID-19 virus is concerned.

As per the officials at the decision was necessary to break the further transmission of the disease in the area. The authorities have directed the officials concerned to ensure the supply of essential commodities as per laid down protocols in the villages. (JKNS)
