5 more test positive for Covid-19 Coronavirus in Kashmir

Srinagar, March 29: Five more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Kashmir on Sunday, taking the number of infected to 38 and dead to two in the Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Rohit Kansal, the spokesperson for the Jammu and Kashmir administration, said among the new cases two each were from Srinagar and Budgam and one from Baramulla.

 

A 67-year-old man, who had contracted Covid-19, died in Srinagar’s Chest Disease Hospital in the morning, Kansal had said earlier.

 

“Sad start to the day. The unfortunate demise of a coronavirus patient in Srinagar this morning,” Kansal had tweeted.

 

Around 5763 travelers and people in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance so far the Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Kashmir records 2nd Coronavirus death

 

Kashmir valley on Sunday reported its second coronavirus death at Chest Disease (CD) hospital Srinagar and he was laid rest at Sulanda Village of Tangmarg north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

 

The patient was referred from SMHS hospital and had tested positive for Covid19 on Saturday. As per the doctors at the hospital, the patient was put on a ventilator on Saturday evening and he was suffering from a liver ailment.

 

“The person who died in the hospital had no travel history but he had met a couple who had come from Saudi Arabia. The couple is currently admitted in Government Medical College (GMC) in Baramulla,” the official said.

 

It was the second death in Kashmir due to Coronavirus. Earlier a 65-year-old man from Hyderpora died at CD hospital.

 

An eyewitness at Tangmarg told JKNS that the funeral of the deceased was performed as per WHO guidelines and only 5-6 persons attended the funeral of the deceased.

 

Family of Tangmarg Covid-19 victim under quarantine
At least 14 family members of Tangmarg Covid-19 patient who died on Sunday were put under quarantine.

 

The deceased was tested positive on Saturday and died on Sunday morning at CD hospital. As per the officials, the family of the deceased has been kept at Quarantine ward at National Regional Institute Dhowbhiwan.

 

Following the incident, the Municipal Council Baramulla conducted sterilization in the entire neighborhood of the deceased at Solinda and specialized chemical spray was used for the process.

 

After Pulwama reported first Covid-19 case, 90 contacts put under quarantine

 

After Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Sunday reported its first Coronavirus case, the administration has quarantined 87 contacts of the infected patient.

 

On Sunday, a youth from Rajpora area of the district was

was tested positive for Coronavirus and in view of his contact history, the administration has quarantined 87 people who he met during the past 10-13 days.

 

As per the officials, the patient had recently come from outside Jammu and Kashmir and had a travel history of outside states.

 

“The patient might have come in contact with Tableegi members from other countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, etc, during various religious congregations,” the official said.

 

He said the patient had reached Pulwama on 20 March after travelling from Delhi to Jammu and from Jammu to Pulwama.

 

The official said that so far at least 87 contacts of the subject 75 from Khaigam, 12 from Chandgam have been put under quarantine at a private school in Dangerpora Pulwama.

 

SMC uses drones to monitor sterilization process

 

The Srinagar Municipal Corporation is using drones to monitor the locations of Covid-19 positive cases in Srinagar.

 

From the past seven, over 13 people have been tested positive for the Coronavirus and Following which teams of SMC are reaching the spot for conducting 300-meter sterilization and that process is monitored by drones.

As per the officials, the SMC is using the drone camera technology to monitor the sterilization of confirmed Covid-19 cases.

 

Taking to JKNS, a senior official at SMC told JKNS that on Sunday they started a decontamination operation at and around a 300 meters radius from the location of the positive case at Ahmed Nagar.

 

“Over 4 mobile teams sanitized the area. This process will continue in every native area of the confirmed case Srinagar,” he said.

The official said that their mobile teams also sanitized the native areas of other confirmed cases within the limits of the SMC. (JKNS)
