16 new Covid-19 cases reported in Kashmir, tally mounts to 581

JKNS reports from Indian occupied Kashmir

Srinagar, April 29: Sixteen new Covid-19 positive cases were reported in Kashmir on Wednesday taking the total number of people infected with the coronavirus disease in the region to 581.

A senior official at of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science, Srinagar, six were confirmed at viral Diagnostic Lab including four from Budgam and one each from Baramulla and Kulgam districts.

While ten cases were confirmed at the COVID-19 testing laboratory at Chest Disease Hospital, it includes one from Srinagar and nine from Anantnag.

While Jammu had recorded its first positive case on March 9, Kashmir’s first Covid-19 positive case was reported on March 18.

So far, 176 have recovered in Jammu and Kashmir from the disease while eight other people have died.

The government has said that over 68846 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance.


Pulwama admin quarantines 300 workers at SIDCO

A day after two Coronavirus cases were surfaced in Pulwama, the district administration on Wednesday quarantined 300 workers at State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO) in Lassipora Pulwama.

As per the senior official told JKNS, they are all the contacts of the driver who was tested positive on Tuesday from Rohmu village of the district.

On Tuesday, after Pulwama was declared Covid-19 free, two cases were surfaced following which their contacts are being tracked by the authorities.

16 villages declared red zones in Pulwama

As two new positive cases of COVID-19 surfaced in the district, the authorities on Wednesday declared Rohmoo, Gusso and Frasipora villages of tehsil Rajpora and Reshipora Chirat, Monviji, Banderpora Chirat, Wandakpora, Kakapora Town of Tehsil Kakapora as Red Zones.

The villages including Mirgund, Zaigam, Mitirigam, Chewa Kalan, Wahibugh, Tujan and Thokerpora as buffer Zones in Tehsil Rajpora; Galbugh, Lelhar, Hajibal, Ratnipora from Tehsil Kakapora and Goripora from Awantipora Tehsil as buffer zones.

The precautionary measures were taken when two persons from Rahmoo and Reshipora villages were detected positive for COVID-19.

Kashmiris students, labourers stranded in Uttrakhand, Arunachal Pradesh seek evacuation

Scores of students, labourers, from J&K stranded in several parts of Uttarakhand in wake of coronavirus lockdown and urged administration to evacuate them as they are facing a financial crisis.

Adil Khan, a student from Dharadun told JKNS, he along with other students are stranded since the lockdown was imposed in India.

“We are also running out of our resources and it is very difficult to stay back under these circumstances,” he said.

Khan said these things are taking a toll on their mental health and they are also suffering from depression and anxiety.

“We are around 60-70 students stranded in several cities of Uttrakhand and J&K administration should evacuate us as our families are suffering,” he said.

Another stranded student, Shafat Mir stated that they have been trying to contact various helpline numbers, emails issued by J&K administration, but there was no response from their side.

“J&K administration should evacuate as they are facing problems on a daily basis and financial crunch,” he said.

Mir said their families have become anxious about their safety and health.

“We are on the verge of breakdown now. Please evacuate us, as J&K admin evacuated other laboures and students from Himachal Pradesh, Kota, and other states,” he said.

Another group of labourers stranded in Itanagar city of Arunachal Pardesh stated that they are running out of money.

“Although local administration is helping them but it has been more than 30 days since he along with several laborers are stranded,” he said.

“We want to come home and urge the government to evacuate us as soon as possible as we are facing problems in the city,” he said.

The students and labourers appealed Lt. Governor led administration and Chief Secretary to intervene and help them to evacuate to Kashmir.
