Surgical Strikes: India spreads falsehood and celebrates a fake bravado

Zulfiqar Ali   As India celebrates the third anniversary of India’s so-called surgical strikes, there is a lurking feeling that India has still not officially provided any details of those strikes.   The only account of those details came from Indian journalist Praveen Swami in a report published a few days after the alleged strikes. What he euphemistically termed “graphic details”, however, appeared to be an effort to appease the Indian political and military establishment. Swami claimed that he gathered his information from five people living on the Pakistani side whom he contacted through their relatives on the Indian side. He wrote that the eyewitness accounts corroborated Indian intelligence records obtained by Indian Express. According to Swami’s own admission, his most detailed account comes from two witnesses of Dudhnial village in Neelum Valley. Swami’s witnesses saw “a gutted house” in the village from the main market on the other sid...

Money laundering and terror financing by India?

Amjed Jaaved Indian media is never tired of describing Pakistan as a hub of money laundering and terror financing in the world.  Indian representatives echoed their babble in recent United Nations meetings also. India makes no bones in declaring its intention to link Pulwama blasts with money trail to Pakistan. By doing so India hopes to get Pakistan blacklisted by Financial Action Task Force. Little focus on money laundering and terror financing by India : Nowadays, Major powers’ geopolitical and economic interests have forced them to ignore suspicious financial transactions by India. However, not long ago, the world was more concerned about money laundering in India than in Pakistan. Even the USA called upon India to do more to prevent the financing of terror networks. USA’s Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Anthony Wayne told the Senate Banking Committee, ‘In India, two accounts belonging to terrorist individuals/entities have been identified, bu...

Western countries ’emboldened’ India’s anti-Muslim agenda: HRW chief

NEW YORK, Sep 23: The refusal by leading Western countries to call out human rights abuses by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has only emboldened him in pushing his anti-Muslim agenda, the head of Human Rights Watch (HRW), a prominent international watchdog body, has said. “Modi has largely got away with his anti-Muslim agenda and his oppression of protests against it, that is the relative lack of criticism from the West has only emboldened him on this abusive path,” Kenneth Roth, HRW’s executive director, said in an exclusive interview with Newsweek, a widely circulated American magazine. In the Indian state of Assam, he said, 1.9 million Muslims were made stateless, as part of Modi’s anti-Muslim agenda. Roth said the desire of leading countries in the West to use India as a counterweight to China’s power and influence as well as the unprincipled approach to human rights pursued by US President Donald Trump had only emboldened the Indian prime minister’s decision to undermine th...

Countering Hostile Propaganda against the CPEC

By Sajjad Shaukat When during the regime of the President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan initiated the construction of Gwadar deep-seaport in Balochistan province in March 2002 with Chinese assistance, sirens went off in the capitals of some European countries, especially the US, India and Israel which took it as a threat to their global and regional plans. Located on the southwestern coast of Pakistan, Balochistan’s Gwadar seaport is close to the Strait of Hormuz from where more than 17 million barrels of oil pass every day. Its ideal location among South Asia, the oil-rich Middle East, and oil and gas-resourced Central Asia has further increased its strategic significance. Besides, Balochistan’s abundant mineral resources irritate the eyes of the America, India and Israel which intend to destabilize Pakistan for their collective aims, as the latter is also the only nuclear country in the Islamic World. However, development in Pakistan’s province of Balochistan has shifted the grav...
