Anti-Muslim-Anti-China Article in Japan Times

By Sajjad Shaukat   It is a misfortune that as part of the Indian venomous propaganda campaign, in his article, published in Japan Times on April 14, 2020, under the caption “The other contagion: Political and religious fanaticism”, Indian writer Brahma Chellaney has shown misconceptions about the Muslims, some Islamic countries, including Pakistan and China in relation to the Coronavirus outbreak. Brahma Chellaney wrote: “Just as fascism led to World War II, communism has engendered the greatest global health catastrophe of our time. The Chinese Communist Party, by initially covering up the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan, helped unleash the world’s worst pandemic … [China’s]…authoritarianism can ravage the entire world…the pandemic is another extremism—one grounded in religion…Meanwhile, a transnational Islamist movement, the Tablighi Jamaat (“Proselytizing Society”), by holding large gatherings in Malaysia, Pakistan and Indonesia, helped export the pathogen to multiple countries ...

When Maharja’s tyrant soldiers butchered 28 innocent Kashmiri weavers

NEYAZ ELAHI Srinagar, Apr 29: Due to lock down in wake of Coronavirus, no organization or entity including Pashmina Karigar Union this time remembered the 28 innocent shawl weavers who were put to death by tyrant soldiers of Maharaja Ranbir Singh on 29 April 1865 at Zaldagar area of old Srinagar city. The unarmed shawl weavers were protesting against the cruel taxation of the then autocratic government. Every year, people especially those related to Pashmina business used to commemorate the death anniversary of these innocent weavers. These people used to observe April 29 instead of May 1 as Labour Day. “April 29, 1865, is marked as the bloodiest day in Kashmir history and it is our responsibility and duty to revive our past and impress upon all the trade unions here in Kashmir to observe Labour Day on this day. Unfortunately, this year we couldn’t observe this day in wake of lockdown due to lethal Coronavirus,” said a Weaver Tariq Ahmed to KNT over the phone. He said the world obs...

India tastes its own medicine: “Impunity for Non-State Actor Violence”

By Imtiaz Gul   The US Commission for International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) report delivers a stinging unexpected bolt to an infatuated Indian leadership; recommendation that India be declared a “country of particular concern.” As the narrow-minded, RSS-inspired Modi team ramped up propaganda against Pakistan, allowed its things to persecute Muslims in all possible ways and poked fun at minorities as well as Arabs, they forgot one naked reality; motivated propaganda and fake news have a shelf life and eventually gets exposed.  The latest ploy was of the alleged 14 launch pads to facilitate the infiltration of “non-state actors” into the Indian-controlled Kashmir. The motive was pretty clear i.e. keep painting Pakistan in bad light and lobby against it at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Isn’t it strange that the Indian campaign against Pakistan was predicated on non-state actors, and now the US report itself accuses New Delhi of “ impunity for violence by non-s...

India and the Arab World

Basit Amin Makhdoomi. Lawyer, J&K High Court   It is an old adage that building relationships and trust takes ages while destroying them takes a few seconds. Recently Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and several other gulf countries raised red flags demonstrating concerns over instances of Muslims being targeted in India amid the COVID-19 crisis. Calling on the Indian government to take steps to protect Muslim minorities who are being “negatively profiled,” facing “discrimination and violence” amidst the COVID-19 crisis, the 57-member OIC criticised what it called “growing Islamophobia” in India. These remarks came amidst an unhealthy trend of attaching coronavirus in India with Muslims and suffixing names like “Jamaati Virus”, “ Corona Khan”, “Corona Jihad” et al on social media platforms and other associated media. These recent incidents of toxicity might go a long way in tearing apart the hard-earned relationship of trust, faith and reliance that India and the G...
