We need our A-game to get closer to maiden WC trophy: Morgan

💻Jk News info 📰 BIRMINGHAM: Pushed to the wall, England bounced back in style to stay alive and skipper Eoin Morgan says that the hosts are very much in contention for a maiden World Cup trophy, provided they produce their ‘A-game’ in the remaining matches. Back-to-back defeats to Sri Lanka and Australia threatened to derail England’s World Cup campaign but they came up with a great show when it mattered and defeated India by 31 runs on Sunday to stay afloat. “Yeah, it is. The closer we can get to playing our A-game, the more of a chance we have of going the whole way. If we’re scraping our way along, not playing the type of cricket we played in the last four years, I wouldn’t be as confident,” Morgan said at the post-match press conference. “I think the manner in which we played today, particularly with the bat, was outstanding. It certainly resonates with everybody in the change room to the identity which we wanted to play with in this tournament. It’s come at a really good time...

‘Bangla Test’: Changes on cards as no end to India’s middle-order woes

💻Jk News info 📰 BIRMINGHAM: Kedar Jadhav and Yuzvendra Chahal could find their names struck off the final XI as India aim for a quick turnaround in their penultimate World Cup group league game against a battle-hardened Bangladesh, which is trying to stay relevant in a fight for the last-four berth. The seasoned Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja are in contention for the first XI berths keeping the odd dimensions of the Edgbaston ground in mind. India are currently on 11 points from seven games and a win on Tuesday will ensure a smooth passage to the semi-finals unlike Bangladesh, who must win their last couple of league games in order to make their maiden entry into the last four stage. Having received a rude shake-up from England, India will have very little time for recovery as they seek immediate course correction against a team, which boasts of the world’s No.1 all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in its ranks. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s poor show as a finisher in a wobbly middle-ord...

Cong slams Modi Govt over ‘obstacles’ imposed on availing education loans

💻Jk News info 📰   NEW DELHI: The Congress Monday accused the Modi government of “punishing” lakhs of economically weaker students by putting “obstacles” in the eligibility criteria to avail education loans for pursuing professional or technical courses. The Congress’s attack came after a media report claimed that the pool of eligible institutions for which students can take education loans to pursue professional or technical courses got smaller. The report, citing the latest set of guidelines issued by the Union HRD Ministry, said the eligibility for the model educational loan scheme of the Indian Banks’ Association is restricted to students enrolling for professional and technical courses in NAAC-accredited institutions of national importance and centrally-funded technical institutions. “BJP government punishes lakhs of economically weaker students by putting obstacles in eligibility criteria to avail education loans for pursuing Professional/Technical courses!” Congress chi...

Cairn stops paying royalty on Rajasthan oil after differences with ONGC

💻Jk News info 📰   NEW DELHI, June 30: Cairn Oil & Gas, a vertical of mining billionaire Anil Agarwal-owned Vedanta Ltd, has stopped paying for its share of royalty on oil produced from its Rajasthan block following differences with partner ONGC on cost recovery. As much as USD 400 million of royalty dues since July 2017 have not been paid to state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC), sources in know of the development said. ONGC is the licensee of the Barmer block in Rajasthan, home to India’s biggest onland oil discovery to date, and is responsible for payment of royalty at the rate of 20 per cent of the oil price on the entire output from the field irrespective of its stake. However in 2011, when ONGC gave its nod to Cairn being taken over by Vedanta, it was agreed that the two partners would pay for royalty in proportion to their share — so Cairn was to pay for royalty on its 70 per cent share of oil and ONGC on 30 per cent. This was to be done by way of reimburseme...

HRD sends list of premiere engineering institutions to Kuwait following invalidation of IIT degrees

💻Jk News info 📰   NEW DELHI, June 30: The HRD Ministry has sent a list of premiere engineering institutes in the country to Kuwait authorities where thousands of Indian engineers, including IITians, are staring at possible job losses after the Gulf country decided to recognise degrees only if India’s NBA approved of the courses they studied. The Public Authority for Manpower, a government body in Kuwait, had last year issued a circular asking the labour department to not give work permits to expatriate engineers unless they got no-objection certificates from the Kuwait Engineers Society. For India, engineers were to be issued no-objection certificates only if the course had been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The Ministry of Human Resource Development has since then been receiving representations from Indian engineers working in Kuwait regarding this. “A high-level Indian delegation had visited Kuwait to understand and resolve the issue and after di...

Stop calling luxury cars as sin goods; reduce GST: JLR

💻Jk News info 📰   NEW DELHI, June 30: The Government should stop classifying luxury cars as sin goods and reduce tax burden on such vehicles, as manufacturers contribute healthily in the country’s economic growth, according to Jaguar Land Rover India. Stating that heavy tax burden has restricted growth of the luxury car market in India, Jaguar Land Rover India President and Managing Director Rohit Suri said that if the criteria of sin goods classification is based on expensiveness, then even going to five-star or wearing expensive shirts and shoes would also be ‘sin’. At present luxury vehicles in India attract top GST slab of 28 per cent and additional cess of 20 per cent on sedans and 22 per cent on SUVs, taking the total tax incidence to 48 per cent and 50 per cent, respectively. “The government calls it (luxury vehicles) sin goods. This does not allow the market to grow. We can’t understand how it is a sin-good. I can understand something which impacts your health like ci...

Tawi Barrage audit

💻Jk News info 📰 Due to one reason or the other, the “spell of evil eyes” on the River Tawi Barrage seems not to be over, if it be put in that lighterway . The work on the much hyped Barrage , the Artificial Lake continues to be in chronic hiccups, mired in officialdom’s lethargy, poor monitoring, lack of proper interest, court cases and the like. The latest hitch was about the basic requirement of having no audit been conducted of the works and the amounts spent thereon. However, its audit was ordered and a panel of officers appointed for the job. The deadline for special audit of the Barrage is already over but neither is the report submitted nor the work resumed. The clock or the meter of cost escalation is ticking non stop and further cost escalations are not only expected considerably but were going to add into the mess further.
